Chicago children’s filmfest to screen Iran’s ‘The Crow’

Iranian animation ‘The Crow’ has been competing at the 39th Chicago International Children’s Film Festival (CICFF) in the US.

The Chicago children’s fest has currently Ahura Shahbazi’s ‘The Crow’ on board at the short animated movie section.

The animation tells the story of a crow, which is tired of living among the other crows in their small community. It decides to leave and follow an eagle. As the crow follows, he comes across several trials before the eagle accepts him and allows him to travel beside him. Returning from his journey, the crow returns to the other crows and presents his new form, inspiring another crow to begin the journey.

Also produced by Shahbazi, the animation is an adaptation of 'The Eagle', a poem by Iranian poet Parviz Natel Khanlari.

In the poem, the life of an eagle is the focus of the story, but Shahbazi narrates the story from a different point of view and picks a crow as the main character in his animation.

The director stated, “‘The Crow’ is a reflection of my own thoughts and perspective”.

It took the crew four years to make the animation. The crew includes screenwriters Ahura Shahbazi and Vida Shirazi; and composer and sound designer Kiarash Bakhtiari.

The flick was previously screened at the 20th edition of the Vaasa Wildlife Festival in Finland.

The CICFF is an Oscar-qualifying children’s film festival that hosts international works.

Each year, the CICFF presents a selection of high-quality films for children, teens, and adults, featuring over 250 films from 40 countries.

The 39th edition of the event has been underway since November 4 and it is scheduled to wrap up on November 20, 2022.
